The test, popularized by the #30Wears campaign, is a cost-per-wear filter stated as a commitment. Thirty wears means roughly once a month for three years - a low bar for anything claiming to be a staple. It instantly filters out occasion purchases ('I need something for one wedding'), which should be borrowed or rented instead, and trend pieces with a six-month shelf life. Apply it honestly and two things happen: the wardrobe skews toward versatile neutrals that pass the test easily, and the few statement pieces that stay are ones you genuinely love rather than impulse buys.
